At 18, Barbara moved to New York City to attend New York University and The Fashion Institute of Technology, studying art history and women’s studies by day and fashion design at night. Taking advantage of the studios at FIT, she continued to create eye-catching designs for herself and friends, eventually styling many on the New York nightlife scene. She also interned at Jill Stuart and Donna Karan gaining invaluable experience and crafting a dynamic signature
A style she would soon extend to celebrities and socialites on both coasts. Perhaps it’s as simple as her individual approach, analyzing the personality and the body and then creating a look that reflects a confident mindset and favors the particular form without ever appearing overworked. Indeed she juxtaposes sharp tailored lines with feminine silhouettes and there is always an embellishment, something tactile or textured to add the period. That sexy femininity was immediately apparent and her keen eye for detail and impeccable taste landed her jobs with top talents including: Rihanna Beyonce, Alexis Bedel, Carla Gugino, Karolina Korikova, Blake Lively, Jennifer Lopez, Gwenyth Paltrow, Nicole Ritchie, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Schzor, Brittany Spears and Erin Wasson; as well as socialites Wendy Murdoch, Allison Sarofim, Kathy Freston, Kate Capshaw Spielberg, Kathy Kennedy, Lauren Ridinger and Tamara Mellon.
Barbara was recruited as the buyer for Curve with stores in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Miami. She covered collections in London, Milan, Paris and New York from Antonio Berardi, Burberry Prorsum, Mark Fast. Givenchy, Isabel Marant, Alexander McQueen, Victor & Rolf, etc…exposing her clients to the cutting edge of fashion, spotting trends and interpreting them. Over the last five years, she has also styled ad campaigns and fashion shows for top designers.
Today, Barbara has launched her own styling consultancy business and travels between New York and Los Angeles doing what she loves most and remaining true to her creative spirit.
